Why I wrote this book

I’m world-class at fear. I don’t mean that I’ve conquered it. I mean that fear has been a lifelong companion for me. After years of thinking my high levels of agitation were anxiety, I was diagnosed with chronic PTSD in late 2020.

That diagnosis changed my life because it changed how I think and feel about fear.

I used PTSD-specific healing modalities to create new neuropathways.  I began practicing mindfulness techniques to expand my tolerance for staying with unpleasant feelings. I learned to support my nervous system so that I can return to calm more quickly and easily.

My new knowledge and skills also highlighted for me how fear permeates organizations, especially during change. I considered whether this was the best type of work for me. But the more healing I did, the more certain I became this was EXACTLY what I needed to be doing.

Courage isn't the absence of fear but deciding to act despite its presence. My change work took on a greater purpose to help leaders and other humans who struggle with fear and anxiety...just like me.

This is why I wrote Inspired by Fear: Becoming a Courageous Change Leader.Â
